High School Mission Statement

The mission of Star City High Schools is to enrich students academically, physically, emotionally, and socially so that each may become a productive member of society.  We accept responsibility for providing quality instruction in a safe, orderly, and positive environment.  We know success depends on the joint effort of students, teachers, parents, and the community

Physics Class built roller coasters:

This is a project Physics Class does when they complete the motion component of Kinematics. They must work together to complete the rollercoaster.  There are about 51 sections.  After it is completed, both cars must travel through the loop twice.  The students have calculations to complete.  They calculate velocity, distance, acceleration, and momentum.  They also use the loop formula to determine velocity and acceleration during the loop.

WITS Came to SCHS!

WITS (Writers in the Schools) came to Star City for a two day visit in Mrs. Martha Weatherford’s English 10 classes on October 5-6.
For over thirty (30) years, WITS has sent teams of two writers to Arkansas schools to work with and to encourage students to use their imaginations to create well-crafted poetry.
During these visits, the writers lead students in writing activities based on five major rules:
1. Be concrete, as opposed abstract
2. Be specific
3. Use imagery (the five senses)
4. Avoid rhyme
5. Be unique

WITS is lead and staffed by graduate students in the Programs in Creative Writing and Translation at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and reaches out to 30-40 schools during the fall and spring.
Working in the WITS program is not a course requirement but is an extracurricular activity for the team members.
The team members who visited SCHS, Jason Torrente and Adam Pearson, are both in the MFA program in Creative Writing at UAFayetteville.
